How to Extend Your Visa in Indonesia
Extending your visa must be done at a local immigration office ("Kantor Imigrasi"). The process can be time-consuming, which is why many travelers choose to use a visa agent. Here is a general overview of the process:
-
1
Visit Immigration (First Trip)
Submit your passport, completed forms, and pay the official fee. You will be given a date to return for biometrics.
-
2
Biometrics (Second Trip)
Return to the immigration office on your scheduled date to have your fingerprints and photograph taken.
-
3
Passport Collection (Third Trip)
Come back a few days later to collect your passport with the new visa extension stamp.
Pro Tip: Start the extension process at least 7-10 business days before your visa expires to avoid overstay fines. To skip the hassle, consider using a local visa agent.
Other Important Entry Requirements
Electronic Customs Declaration (e-CD)
This is a mandatory digital form for all travelers. You should fill it out online within 48 hours before your arrival. After submission, you will receive a QR code that you must show to customs officers. Each family can submit one declaration.
Bali Tourist Levy
All foreign tourists arriving in Bali are required to pay a one-time tourist fee of IDR 150,000 (approx. USD 10). It is highly recommended to pay this online before your trip via the official "Love Bali" website or app to get a QR code for smooth entry.
Travel Insurance (Recommended)
While not a mandatory entry requirement, comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended. Medical care in Bali can be expensive, and insurance provides crucial coverage for unexpected illness, accidents, and travel disruptions.
